The photo above shows Kaslo around 1900, the site of the present day Kaslo Motel was the Hockey rink, shown in the middle of the photo.  The ice rink was the first covered rink between Lethbridge and Vancouver until the 1930’s.  The rink was used until 1934 when the roof collapsed due to heavy snowfall.  The building was dismantled shortly after and the site used as an open air rink until early 1944.


The property was sold and became the Kaslo Kabins in 1945, after the cabins on D Ave were built by Japanese Canadians interned in Kaslo during World War 2.



Throughout the years previous owners have added to the “Kabins” with the section on Highway 31, and the ground floor motel section in the courtyard added in the 1970’s and the upstairs motel addition in 1998.  Terry, Christopher and Caroline have been here since 2003.
